If you have fine hair, whether it’s long or short, you may have a lot of it but it’s never thick enough. So there are gaps and little to no volume. It’s hard to get a curl to stay in shape all day or create hairstyles that work with fine hair. If you’re suffering from an overdose of hairspray and backcombing, then I strongly recommend getting hair extensions!
For women with fine hair who want temporary hair extensions, I would recommend going with halos or clip-ins. In this tutorial, I will explain how to wear your halo hair extensions PLUS four ways you can style them for fine hair!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Halo Hair Extension
- Brush or Comb
- Hair Clip
- Hair Elastics (for styling)
I am using Hidden Crown Halo Hair Extensions in #60 which is their lightest platinum blonde. I bought it four years ago and washed it god knows how many times after I dyed it pink. It’s still maintained its integrity! This is the first and ONLY hair extension to last this long with me! When I first got my halo hair extensions, I was shocked by the quality of the hair. It’s so incredibly soft!! Seriously, guys, I am not kidding!
Okay, let’s get started…
STEP 1 – CURL YOUR OWN HAIR
Before you start anything, make sure your own hair is curled. I like to use my 2″ wand to create loose tousled waves. Section your hair, twirl into a bun and clip it to the top of your head. Starting from the bottom, grab a small section of hair and start curling. I like to curl away from my face but you can also curl towards your face as well, totally up to you! I use hairspray to hold my curls and spray a little bit over my curls after every section.
STEP 2 – CURL YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS
Before you put on your hair extensions, you’re going to need to curl them. Same as you did with your own hair, section the hair and start curling! When you’re finished, run your fingers through the hair and separate some strands.
STEP 3 – PUTTING ON YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS
There are two ways you can put the extensions in. By placing the halo on top of your hair and then taking a comb and pulling your hair over the halo so it blends. I don’t like doing it this way because if you have fine hair it’s going to get caught in the fish wire and tangle and not blend as well. Or you can section half your hair, put it in a bun on top of your head and add the halo over top. Let your bun down and blend with a brush or comb. Much easier!
STEP 4 – BLENDING YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS
Curl a mix of your hair and the extensions to blend them together. I like to do a few around my face. Run your fingers through your hair and brush out the ends. Add some hairspray and now you’ve taken your fine limp hair to a voluminous lions mane!
I wanted to give you guys more options for hairstyles other than curling your hair so…I created 4 simple looks you can use to style your halo hair extensions if you have fine hair!
